Part Time Degree Course [updated on 17th March,2002]
The Part Time Degree [PTD] program for technicians and engineering working in profession with diploma and willing to enhance qualification began in 1974 with intake capacity of 20. The duration of the course is for four years and elligibility criteria required minimum 2 years of professional experience and 20 years of age.
Early batches enrolled very senior experienced students finding basic subjects difficult to connect to. The first batch of final year comprised barely 7 students against first year intake of 20. The department, however, got definite advantage of these experineced students in developing some very good projects such as
Water Hammer Forming setup [S K Bhowmik and others],
Abrasive Jet Machining system [ Prem Chand Jaiswal and others],
Shell Moulding Manually operated Machine [J.A.Amin and others],
Working Model of Power Hammer [Shantilal C. Panchal, lecturer Polytechnic, and others],
Optical Interferometer [P.M.Mogarkar et al, PTD students from Jyoti Ltd.],
Cryogenic Molding [ Melvin Raja et al]
Vacuum Moulding model [Gupta et al, PTD students, from ONGC]
and many more. Quite a few of these are till date working and used in laboratory practicals.
Curricula of Part Time Degree program has undergone revision from time to time in attempting to keep pace with regular full time course. The final year Project got removed in 90s. Also, only limited electives in final year are offered in comparision to what is offered in regular full time program. The first three years examinations are conduction by Faculty - Director, Part Time Degree course. Final year examination is held by M.S.University.
